The Togolese government has halted the “Express Mode” visa delivery service at the country’s entry points, effective April 12, 2024.
The suspension of the ‘Express Mode’ visa delivery service, a significant move in the realm of Togo’s security, was announced by Minister of Security and Civil Protection Calixte Madjoulba. He also outlined the revised visa application protocols, further underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering security measures, VisaGuide.Word reports.
This decision to end the express visa is part of a broader reassessment of border security measures in Togo. Official statements indicate that the primary purpose behind this suspension is to increase security checks for anyone entering the country. Togolese authorities have also identified vulnerabilities in the previous system that could be exploited by individuals with nefarious intentions.
Togo Considers New Expedited Pre-Approval System Amid Visa Changes
Notably, the Togolese government is not only discontinuing the express visa but also considering the introduction of an expedited pre-approval system. This system is designed to cater to specific groups of travelers, such as business professionals and individuals facing medical emergencies, who have compelling reasons for swift entry into the country. This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to balancing security and convenience.
Such an initiative aims to streamline Togo’s visa procedures to meet international security standards. By simplifying the visa application process, Togo anticipates reducing fraudulent activities and unauthorized border crossings, strengthening its border protection efforts.
While security experts largely support these modifications, believing they can significantly reduce security issues related to irregular migration, there are concerns expressed by the tourism and business sectors. Stakeholders in these industries are concerned about the potential consequences for travelers seeking expedited processing of spontaneous travel visas.
To obtain an e-visa for Togo, applicants must fulfil the following criteria:
- A passport valid for at least six months beyond the planned visit
- A digital copy of the passport’s bio page
- A digital passport photo
- Proof of travel plans, like a flight schedule
- An active email address for e-visa delivery
