Iran to Restrict Travel Amid Coronavirus

Iran decided to close its borders to all foreign countries, as a precautionary measure for the coronavirus pandemic, the Interior Ministry of Iran announced.

The latest move will be effective starting from March 27, until further notice, VisaGuide.World reports.

“Entry into a city will be restricted to residents only, as verified by national ID cards, license plates and car insurance. Schools and universities will remain closed, as will parks, gardens, and other public spaces. All ceremonies, whether official or not, will be banned,” the statement reads.

The police will enforce new distancing measures, as the government offices will work in three different shifts, in a bid to reduce the number of people at work, up to one-third of the regular staff.

Amid coronavirus outbreak, guilds and other jobs will also work in three different groups. The jobs must remain open most of the time.

Iran police chief Hossein Ashtari advised all Iranians stranded abroad to return to their homes, as the large share of countries is facing with the border closure decision.

Ashtari announced that all travel outside of the city will be banned. He also clarified that from this decision will be exempted travel for medical and food supplies.

The Iranian police chief said that individuals who travel outside their home cities will be fined and their cars will be impounded for a month.

The head of traffic police, Teymour Hosseini said that the exit from the provinces will be restricted, and no one will be allowed to exit the provinces. People returning to their home provinces will be exempted from the latest Iran’s government move.

Hosseini urged all the residents to return to their homes as soon as possible.

Up to this point, 32,332 persons tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic, while 2,378 persons have died.
