We’re still in talks to have the United States lift its visa requirement for Brazilians, which would allow us to reciprocate.

However, the United States Embassy in Brasilia, through a statement said that Americans will still be able to request visas electronically if they visit Brazil from April 10 onward.

In 2024, Brazil welcomed a total of 728,537 visitors from the United States, 96,540 Canadians as well as 52,888 Australians, based on the figures from Brazil’s tourism promotion agency, Embratur, cited by China Daily.

Entering Brazil Through Various Visa Options

At present, nationals of a large number of countries are subject to visa requirements when planning to travel to Brazil, or more specifically all those who are not included on Brazil’s visa-free countries list.

Foreign nationals who are subject to visas can travel to Brazil by choosing one of the visas offered by this country, depending on the purpose of their travel.

Among the visas offered by Brazil are the following ones:

  • Tourist Visa
  • Transit Visa

  • Work Visa
  • Student Visa
  • Digital Nomad Visa

The most widely recognized is the tourist visa, which brings in a large number of tourists each year.

Similar Measure Taken by Namibia

For the same reasons, arguing that Australia, Canada, and the United States do not reciprocate, authorities in Namibia also imposed visa requirements for nationals of these countries.

Authorities in Namibia warned about the introduction of these measures in July 2024. The decision officially took effect on April 1, 2025.

Beginning April 1, 2025, the Namibian Government will require U.S. citizen tourists to obtain a visa prior to entering the country. Visitors are recommended to apply for their visa in advance of planned travel through Namibia’s online visa-on-arrival portal.
