The government of Brazil has once again delayed the visa rules for travelers from Australia, Canada, and the United States, pushing the deadline to April 10, 2025.

The decision follows a decree signed recently by the Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, VisaGuide.World reports.

This implies that starting from April 10 of next year, the citizens of the countries mentioned above must obtain prior to their travel to Brazil.

The Brazilian government originally planned to bring back the visa requirement in October 2023 but postponed it until January and then April 2024. Now, the government have decided to delay the change for another year.

As reported earlier, the postponement was attributed to the necessity for more time to ensure the system’s setup was executed correctly and to prevent any disruptions to Brazilian tourism during the peak travel season at the beginning of the year.

Visa Fees Set at $80.90

Starting April 10, 2025, Americans, Canadians, and Australians must apply for a visa, which will cost $80.90. The visa grants Americans a 10-year validity period, while Canadians and Australians are eligible for a 5-year validity period each, according to the Skift newspaper.

As further reported, tour operators noted that the new measures will make Brazil less competitive.

US Emerged as Brazil’s 2nd Source of Tourists in 2023

The Brazilian Tourist Board, Embratur, emphasized the importance of this move, considering the rise in international tourists from these countries.

Embratur highlights the importance of the government’s decision to maintain growth in the arrival of foreign tourists from these international markets, notably the United States, the second largest emitter for Brazil in 2023, with 668,478 tourists (11.31 percent of the total).

Furthermore, Embratur said the arrival of North Americans in Brazil from January to February 2024 was 11 percent higher than in the same period in 2023.

Overall, Brazil welcomed a record of nearly six million foreign travellers in 2023, according to data revealed by the Brazilian Central Bank. Such a figure reached 93 percent in 2019, the pre-pandemic year.

Of those, Argentina emerged as Brazil’s primary source of tourists for Brazil, with 1.9 million visitors, followed by the United States with 668,500.

Among Brazil’s top ten countries for international arrivals were Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, France, Portugal, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

As further noted by the authorities, international tourism generated US$ 6.9 billion in revenue to the Brazilian economy last year.
