Britons who are currently unemployed will be eligible to benefit from “skills bootcamps”, the UK’s government has announced.
The recent decision comes as part of the government’s efforts to fill in labor shortage gaps that previously were filed by foreign workers, VisaGuide.World reports.
Among the benefits of the recent decision is to give Britons training for roles in key industries facing labor shortages such as hospitality, construction, care as well as manufacturing.
Skilled bootcamps requirements include that a person should be 19 or above. Any previous knowledge is not needed, and it takes 16 weeks for these training courses to be completed.
Skilled boot camps are available in several fields, among them digital, technical, health and social care and business and administration.
New Rules to Prioritize UK Citizens
The new changes come following the new rules introduced earlier this year by the Home Office of the UK.
Earlier this year, authorities in the UK announced that people who travel to Britain to work in the social care sector would not be allowed to bring their children and partners on their visas. Such a proposal came as part of efforts to halt and curb increased immigration levels.
Today in Parliament, we have laid an order to ban overseas care workers from bringing dependents. This is just one part of our plan to deliver the biggest-ever cut in migration.
Among the new changes introduced by the UK’s authorities was also a hike salary threshold for skilled workers and amendments in order to make it harder for Britons earning under the national average to bring over international spouses.
According to a report from the independent, Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride, is expected to acknowledge that the new rules introduced to reduce the number of international arrivals by 300,000 a year, impose a recruitment challenge for employers, however, he will insist that the UK’s government is building a new economic model based on British talent.
It’s a plan providing more opportunities for people here at home to get on, to progress, and to increase their pay. I know this presents a recruitment challenge for some employers in certain sectors, particularly those that have relied more on migration in the past.
The figures provided recently by the UK’s Home Office revealed that a decrease was noted in the number of student-dependent applications and student visa applications in the first three months of 2024 following the new legislation imposed at the beginning of this year.
Based on Home Office’s statistics, student visas decreased by a total of 79.5 per cent in the first quarter of this year, with 6,700 applications registered compared to the same period in 2023 figures.
