Overstayers in the United Arab Emirates planning to regularize their residency status and remain legally in this country will be required to produce a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The new decision has been confirmed by a senior official, VisaGuide.World reports.
As Khaleej Times explains, the director general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, considered the new changes very important.
Overstaying expats who wish to continue residing in the UAE must present a valid MoHRE work permit as part of their application to legalize their residency status. A company’s offer letter is not an authentic document.
He said this requirement ensures that only persons with legitimate employment would be allowed to continue living in the country.
UAE Is Helping Overstayers Regularize Their Stay Without Any Legal Consequences
The new changes by authorities in the UAE come as part of the amnesty program, which aims to help persons in correcting their residency status without facing legal consequences.
Al Marri said the work permit proves that the person is employed at a company and is contributing to the UAE’s economy.
The work permit serves as verification that the applicant has a lawful job in the UAE, which is an important factor in allowing them to stay. Our goal is to ensure that the process is smooth and that individuals can legally continue their lives in the UAE.
Authorities in the UAE have urged overstaying expats planning to become part of the amnesty program to gather all the needed documents, including the work permit, before reaching their respective centers in order to regularize their status in order to help prevent delays during the process.
Our goal is to provide a pathway for people to stay in the UAE legally, and we are here to support them in this process.
UAE Introduces New Scheme for Irregular Residents
From September 1 this year, the UAE authorities introduced a two-month scheme, which will run until October 30, in order to permit violators to regularize their stay or leave the country without being subject to bans, exit fines, or other fines.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security said that no financial penalties will be imposed on visa violators, permitting them to regularize their status during the time that the scheme is effective.
