Since June 24, Ukrainian citizens can obtain Japan visas more easily, as the latter has simplified its visa regime to promote cultural exchange, commercial relations, and support for Ukraine’s recovery.
Although the Ministry has not yet specified the details, in February 2024, the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine announced changes for the short-term stays of Ukrainian citizens in Japan, VisaGuide.World reports.
From June 24, visa requirements for citizens will be relaxed. This is another step for further developing bilateral relations between Ukraine and Japan, including promoting cultural exchange and commercial ties between the countries and supporting reconstruction efforts.
Japan Has Simplified Visa Requirements for Short-Term Stays of Ukrainians
As the government previously revealed, representatives of Ukrainian companies participating in joint projects with Japan will be eligible for multiple-entry visas for short-term business stays. In addition, the requirements for those who took previous trips to Japan will be relaxed.
Relatives of Ukrainians who evacuated to Japan will also be able to obtain multiple-entry visas for short-term visits.
In addition, multiple-entry visas will be granted to high-income individuals and their family members. These visas will be valid for five years and allow them to stay in Japan for up to 90 days per visit.
On the occasion of the Japan-Ukraine Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, the process of easing visa requirements for short-term stays of Ukrainian citizens (ordinary passport holders) in Japan will begin to develop bilateral relations, including cultural exchange further. The date of implementation and other details are currently being considered.
Currently, the Embassy’s website, the Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, does not provide services, and therefore, it is impossible to apply for a visa to Ukraine.
Instead, Ukrainian citizens have the right to apply for a visa at Japanese embassies in neighboring countries, which are as follows:
- Poland
- Slovakia
- Hungary
- Romania
- Moldova
In addition, those who also hold a long-term residence permit in any other country are eligible to apply at the Japanese Embassy in their country of residence.
