Canada to Start Issuing Super Visa Invitations for Parents & Grandparents Program From May 21

Key Takeaways

  • Canada is planning to issue Super Visa invitations for sponsoring parents starting from May 21, 2024.
  • Under the Parents and Grandparents (PGP), Canada will invite a further 35,700 potential sponsors.
  • The government aims to bring a total of 23,500 new permanent residents under the PGP.

Starting from May 21, 2024, Canadian authorities will begin issuing Super Visa invitations for nearly 35,700 potential sponsoring parents to join their children in Canada who have submitted their applications as early as in 2020.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has revealed that the selection procedure will last for two weeks, during which period the applicants from the pool of remaining interest to sponsor forms submitted in 2020 will be granted invitations, VisaGuide.World reports.

Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) permits citizens of Canada and permanent residents outside Quebec to sponsor their parents and/or grandparents in order to become residents of Canada.

Authorities in Canada aim to attract 23,500 new permanent residents per year through the PGP program, under the current immigration plan.

Besides, in autumn 2023, authorities in this country announced that immigration to Canada under the Parents and Grandparents Program is going to continue to be limited to the families of those sponsors who have already submitted interest to sponsor forms once the program re-opens next month, according to a statement from Immigration Canada.

Due to the number of forms remaining in the pool of submissions from 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send invitations to apply to randomly selected potential sponsors from that pool instead of opening a new interest to sponsor form.

The same notes that this is the same approach taken for 2021 as well as 2022 intakes. Authorities in Canada encourage all those who submitted an interest to sponsor form back in 2020 but didn’t receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in 2021 or 2022 to check the email account they provided back then when they submitted their interest to sponsor form.

It was also announced that IRCC was going to send invitations to apply to 24,200 interested potential sponsors over a period of two weeks starting on October 10, 2023, with the goal of receiving up to a total of 15,000 complete applications.

Those invited to apply as part of the 2023 intake will continue to use the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, which allow applications to be submitted electronically. This is part of our commitment to modernize Canada’s immigration system and to speed up and simplify the application process.

In April this year, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marc Miller, announced new changes introduced to facilitate the country’s federal business immigration programs.

He said the new changes were launched in order to reduce processing times and also address the application backlog.
