Vietnam Expands E-visa Validity Period to 90 Days & Makes Them Multiple-Entry

The National Assembly’s ongoing fifth session, held on Saturday, approved an extension for the duration of tourist e-visas in Vietnam. As of August 15, 2023, the duration of these e-visas will be extended from 30 days to 90 days.

As reported by AsianNews, upon being granted an e-visa, a foreigner will benefit from multiple entries and exits within the approved period of 90 days, VisaGuide.World reports.

In addition, the permitted visa-free stay for citizens of the 25 countries allowed to enter Vietnam without a visa has been extended from 15 days to 45 days for most countries.

The 15th National Assembly achieved a significant milestone by granting approval, with an overwhelming attendance of 470 out of 475 deputies, to the Law that introduces amendments and supplements to various articles of the Law on the Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens, along with the Law on Foreigners’ entry into, exit from, transit through, and residence in Vietnam.

In response to the approved decision, the duration of electronic visas (e-visas) will witness a significant extension from 30 to 90 days. The specific countries and territories whose citizens will be eligible for e-visas, as well as the international border gates permitting entry and exit through e-visas, will be determined by the Government.

Moreover, the Chairman of the NA Committee for National Defence and Security, Lê Tấn Tới, emphasized the efficiency and convenience of online immigration procedures. Such measures enhance the management of entry and exit activities and create favourable conditions for both Vietnamese and foreign individuals.

It is important to note that currently, the e-visa issued by the Immigration Department through the electronic transaction system is valid for a single entry only. Vietnam has been granting e-visas to citizens of 80 countries.

As of June 2023, according to the VisaGuide Passport Index, the Vietnamese passport is ranked 143rd in the world. This ranking suggests that Vietnamese citizens have visa-free access to 25 countries worldwide. However, for the remaining countries, Vietnamese passport holders must apply for a visa in advance to enter those destinations.

Even for visa-free travel, having a valid passport with a validity period typically extending six months beyond your planned departure date is essential. This requirement ensures that your passport remains valid throughout your stay in the destination country.

Additionally, some countries, may require visitors to purchase travel health insurance as a mandatory requirement for entry.
