Uganda Issued Visas on Arrival Due to Malfunction of Its E-Visa Portal

Ten days ago, Ugandan authorities temporarily suspended the e-Visa system to implement this crucial upgrade. During the downtime, international travelers could obtain visas on arrival in Uganda.

In this same period, the government allowed visitors to board flights to Uganda without prior e-visa approval to reduce travel disruptions. In this regard, the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control also informed airlines to permit passengers to travel, with visas issued upon arrival.

The Uganda e-Visa portal is a digital platform for travelers and residents that allows the submission of visa applications online. This system facilitates the application process for a lot of visas, including tourist, business, and East African Tourist visas, work permits, residence certificates, and student or visitor passes.

All individuals applying for visas, Work/Entry Permits, Certificates of Residence, Special Passes, Student Passes, Dependant Passes, Internship/Research Passes, Visitors Passes, and Citizenship can now conveniently apply for these services online.

Through this portal, users can quickly fill out and submit forms, upload required documents, and pay for their visa applications online. The Government of Uganda has facilitated visa processing for all visa-prone travellers by automating an Application Portal in 2016.

According to the VisaGuide Passport Index, citizens of Uganda are allowed to travel to 40 nations around the world under the visa-free policy. However, for 11 countries, they need an eVisa, while for 22 others, these citizens must apply for a visa. As of the current month, the Ugandan passport has emerged in the 147th position globally on the VisaGuide Passport Index.
