  • VisaGuide’s Digital Nomad Index for 2025 reveals the top ten countries for digital nomads.
  • Spain has emerged as the best destination for digital nomads.
  • The final score for each country was determined by six criteria, including healthcare and minimum income requirements.

Digital nomads who are on the quest to find the next best destination that fits their lifestyle best, should consider Spain, which has ranked the highest for remote workers around the world.

According to VisaGuide’s Digital Nomad Index for 2025, alongside Spain, the United Arab Emirates and Montenegro have been positioned on top of this list, standing out as convenient countries for digital nomads, VisaGuide.World reports.

The Index ranks countries based on six criteria, including here the living costs, how much they have to earn to obtain a Digital Nomad Visa, how much they will be taxed, internet speed as well as the healthcare system and how popular a destination is for tourists.

The unique scoring system reveals that the following are the best destinations for digital nomads for 2025:

Spain

This European country has collected the highest score for digital nomads. Tourism popularity, cost of life score and healthcare system have contributed to the result, making Spain the ultimate destination for these workers.

On the other hand, some of the less advantageous components about Spain include the internet speed score, which is not among the highest on this list and the minimum income requirement, which is one of the highest on this list. Digital nomads in Spain must earn over €2,140 monthly in order to be able to obtain a visa.

UAE

The United Arab Emirates holds the highest scores for internet speed on this list, which is a crucial factor for digital nomads seeking their new home. However, the fact that the UAE charges no taxes to these workers could be the ultimate reason why this country is positioned this high up on the Index.

On the other hand, the minimum income requirement could be a downturn, considering that digital nomads have to earn over €5,000 to be eligible for a visa in this country.

Montenegro

The coastal country ranks third on this list, emerging as a growing destination for digital nomads. What makes Montenegro special is a unique blend of what this country has to offer; low taxation, no minimum income requirements, and very affordable living costs. All of this while enjoying the beautiful beaches that Montenegro has to offer.

However, digital nomads in Montenegro have to expect a not-so-stable internet connection, as the country has one of the lowest internet speed scores in this list – 27.54 out of 100 scoring points.

Bahamas

Like Montenegro, the Caribbean country does not stand for its internet speed scores either. Its healthcare score is not also that high but what makes the Bahamas rank this high are the no-taxes policies, meaning that digital nomads have a full visa-length tax-free period.

In addition, anyone can come to the Bahamas as a digital nomad, meaning that no minimum income requirement is mandatory in this country.

Hungary

Hungary is not a coastal country like Montenegro and the Bahamas but it offers a little bit of everything. The internet speed score is not the highest but neither are the taxation charges or minimum income requirements.

Moreover, Hungary does not have a high tourism popularity which for certain personalities, especially more introverted people, could be a positive factor. In total, Hungary scored 3.51 out of five points.

Canada

When it comes to positive factors that make Canada an attractive country for digital nomads, minimum income requirements will grab your attention. The North American country has no minimum income requirements, meaning that the digital nomad position is quite accessible for many people. In addition, these people not only live and work in Canada but also will gain full access to one of the best healthcare systems in the world.

However, Canada is not a very popular destination for tourists so that might be a setback for some people. So are the tax charges, as Canada has a 15 to 33 percent tax rate.

Romania

Digital nomads to Romania will have some of the lowest tax rates you can find in Europe – between zero and ten percent. In addition, what makes Romania a special destination is the very affordable living standards as the country scores 94.4 out of 100 points for its living costs.

The tax-free period in Romania is six months and a €3,300 minimum income requirement is enforced in the country.

Portugal

Portugal has a tax-free period of six months, making it an attractive destination for digital nomads. The country scores 64.65 out of 100 points for its internet speed, which is quite acceptable for Europe as a whole.

With a minimum income requirement of €3,548 and a high score for living costs, Portugal is an affordable destination for remote workers.

The healthcare system also scores highly at 90.32, representing quality care for its residents.

Brazil

With a six-month tax-free period and a minimum income requirement of €1,500, Brazil is gaining recognition as a new destination for digital nomads. The country has a score of 80.19 out of 100 for its affordable cost of living, making the country one of the most affordable on this list.

However, the tax rates in Brazil might be a setback, as they stand at 27 percent – the second highest after Canada.

Curaçao

Curaçao’s Digital Nomad Visa offers a tax-free period that lasts for the full length of the visa. The minimum income requirement is not set, but the country is known for its culture and beautiful landscapes.

With a cost of living score of 10.46, Curaçao is an affordable choice for digital nomads who love living in coastal countries.
