Singapore to Lift Quarantine Rules for Internationals

Starting from Monday, August 29, travelers from other countries who plan to enter Singapore and don’t have completed their immunization process against the Coronavirus will be eligible to do so after Singapore’s government has decided to abolish quarantine requirement.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health has confirmed the decision after ensuring that the country is registering fewer COVID-19 infection cases, VisaGuide.World reports.

However, international visitors who are not fully vaccinated against the virus are still required to present a negative result of the COVID-19 test within two days prior to their departure for Singapore, but they will no longer be obliged to follow seven-day mandatory quarantine rules at home or at their place of residence.

In addition, the country will also abolish the indoor mask requirement starting from Monday, as part of efforts to further ease travel restrictions and facilitate the travel process for internationals, after keeping in place entry rules and other restrictions in order to contain the further spread of the virus.

“For business and employers, they have the discretion to decide whether or not they might want to do this [from] a workplace safety point of view … we are lifting a mandatory requirement for mask-wearing, but it is optional,” Wong pointed out.

In this regard, Singapore’s deputy prime minister Lawrence Wong, who is also co-chair of the COVID task force in Singapore, said that during the time that the country is facilitating entry rules and border measures are a significant milestone, Singapore must still “be mentally prepared for any sudden change because we don’t know how this virus will mutate and what the next variant will look like.”

According to the figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), authorities in Singapore registered a total of 1,818,560 cases of COVID-19 infection since the start of the pandemic, while a total of 1,584 people have died during the same period.

Based on the figures provided by WHO, a total of 1,692 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus in Singapore in the past 24 hours.

The data provided by WHO also shows that as of July 25, a total of 14,272,705 vaccine doses have been administered in this country.

Back in March, authorities in Singapore announced that all passengers who have completed their immunization process against COVID-19 would no longer be required to follow additional entry rules.

Such an announcement was confirmed by Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong and came as part of an effort to gradually get back to normal life.
