New Zealand to Introduce New ‘Parent Boost’ Visa to Support Family Reunification

The government of New Zealand has announced a new long-term visitor visa, the Parent Boost Visa, in an attempt to help unite families and further enhance New Zealand’s appeal to highly skilled migrants.

The so-called Parent Boost Visa is a multiple-entry visitor visa that permits parents of New Zealand nationals and residents to visit the territory for a period of five years, VisaGuide.World reports.

The Parent Boost Visa is a multiple-entry visitor visa that allows parents of New Zealand citizens and residents to visit for up to 5 years. Applicants may apply for a second visa, enabling a total stay of up to ten years, provided they continue to meet all eligibility requirements.

The visa has been created in order to tighten family connections, with the authorities emphasizing that it is not a pathway to residency.

Applications for this new visa will open on September 29, 2025, and the cost of the visa will be NZD $3,000 (1,812 US dollars) for the majority of applicants and NZD $2,450 (1,480 US dollars) for applicants who are eligible for the Pacific fee band.

Requirements for Parent Boost Visa

In a bid to benefit from the new visa, a Parent Boost Visa, applicants are required to show that they meet the needed requirements, among them the following:

  • Sponsorship
  • Financial requirements
  • Health insurance
  • Visa fee

Applicants will be required to undergo two health assessments to ensure they are of an acceptable standard of health. The first health check is completed as part of the initial visa application. In the third year of the visa, applicants must get a second health check while outside of New Zealand. They will also need to show proof that they have held valid health insurance while visiting New Zealand.

However, it must be emphasized that the visitor visa does not offer a pathway to residency to its holders. Those interested in obtaining permanent residency should take into account submitting an expression of interest in line with the Parent Category Resident Visa.

Golden Visa Changes to Boost NZ Economy

To attract wealthy internationals, authorities in New Zealand have introduced several measures. Among them was facilitating the rules for its Golden Visa scheme, which offers residency in exchange for financial investments.

Last month, authorities in New Zealand revealed that its Residency-by-Investment scheme experienced a significant increase in interest, following the facilitated rules.

Authorities in New Zealand applied new changes to the Active Investor Plus scheme on April 1, 2025.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment announced that from April, two simplified categories would be introduced to the Active Investor Plus Visa: Growth and Balanced.
