Namibia Imposes New Visa on Arrival Requirements for Nationals of 33 Countries

Nationals from an additional 33 countries will be subject to visas when traveling to Namibia from this month.

Through a statement, Namibia’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security announced that visa requirements have been imposed on nationals of 33 countries effective April 1, 2025, VisaGuide.World reports.

The new changes mean that citizens of the following countries will be required to apply for a visa prior to traveling to Namibia, as confirmed by the Ministry:

  • EU & Schengen Zone countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland (part of the EU but not Schengen), Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden
  • Schengen zone countries that are not part of the EU: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland
  • Other European countries that are not part of the EU nor Schengen: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, United Kingdom
  • Oceania: Australia, New Zealand,
  • North America: United States, Canada

Visa requirements will also apply to the following Asian countries: Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Japan.

Shift in Its Visa-Free Agreements

Last year, Namibia’s government announced that it is reviewing its visa-free agreements with several countries for being one-sided.

The government warned that it will impose visa requirements for all countries that do not reciprocate visa-free travel for Namibian nationals.

Visitors from the following countries, among others, already need a visa in order to enter Namibia:

  • EU & Schengen countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia
  • Non-EU countries: Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Vatican City
  • Asian countries: Cambodia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam

However, nationals of the following countries can continue visiting Namibia without visas, in spite of new changes that took effect yesterday, April 1, 2025:

Angola, Brazil, Botswana, Cuba, Eswatini, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Lesotho, Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Mauritius, Malawi Mozambique, Seychelles, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Increase in Visa Fees

The government of Namibia previously announced new changes to visa fees. Since the beginning of this month, the following fees will be applied:

  • N$1,600 (about US$88) per person for nationals of non-African Union countries;
  • N$1,200 (US$67) for citizens of African Union countries who meet the requirements to obtain a visa on arrival.

Authorities in Namibia have announced that visa on arrival is only issued at the following airports and border posts:

  • Airports: Hosea Kutako International Airport, Walvis Bay International Airport, Walvis Bay Harbour,
  • Border posts: Trans-Kalahari, Impalila Island, Katima Mulilo, Oshikango, Mohembo, Ariamsvlei, Orangemund, Noordoewer, and Ngoma for selected countries.

Visa on arrival is used for travel purposes only. Those planning to travel to Namibia for other reasons are required to submit their visa application to the appropriate office.
