Authorities in Indonesia are attempting to encourage quality tourism through their Residency by Investment Scheme, known as the Golden Visa Program.
Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, has said that members of the national cabinet, as well as President Joko Widodo, are discussing a new visa facility that will permit quality foreign nationals to stay in this territory for an extended period, VisaGuide.World reports.
“We have just held discussions with The President and the Coordinating Minister on how we will issue a new policy to encourage quality tourists to stay longer and have a greater economic benefit to the people of Indonesia,” Sandiaga pointed out.
He also said that the new policy will operate as Golden Visa while stressing that further details on the matter will be announced in the following weeks. Sandiaga said that the new visa is expected to permit foreigners to stay for a period of five to ten years.
In May this year, Indonesia’s Department of Immigration said that it would soon introduce the Residency by Investment Scheme, known as the Golden Visa Program which allows internationals to acquire residency in this territory if they make a financial contribution in this country.
Indonesia’s Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, previously said that the program would help the country to welcome a large number of international talents, engaged in various fields such as technology and health among others, stressing that it could also serve to create jobs in Indonesia after wealthy foreign investors would invest in the country through property and other means.
“We hope to increase not only investment but employment,” he said while emphasizing that the mission is to create a total of 4.4 million jobs in the tourism sector and creative industries by next year.
The tourism sector in Indonesia has marked notable improvement after being highly affected by COVID-related restrictions imposed to contain its further spread.
The figures of the National Statistics Agency (BPS) showed that the country opened its doors to a total of 2.24 million international travelers in the first quarter of this year, thus accounting for a surge of a total of 508.87 percent compared to 369,180 international visitors welcomed during the same period in the previous year.
In addition, the same source revealed that the country was on track in order to meet its target of welcoming a total of 8.5 million international visitors throughout this year.
In March alone the country saw a total of 809,960 foreign tourists, thus accounting for a 5.39 per cent monthly increase. Besides, international tourists to Indonesia also increased significantly in March, or 470.37 percent compared to March 2022 statistics.
