Authorities in Colombia have announced that the country plans to introduce its two-year remote work visa in October this year.

In order to benefit from such a visa, applicants will need to meet the following requirements:

  • A passport valid for a period of up to three months after the expiration of the visa
  • A letter from the sending company where an international national provides services. The letter, which must be translated into Spanish or English, should provide details on the position, as well as the type of remuneration relieved
  • Copies of bank statements in order to prove their income is at least equivalent to the current minimum monthly wages in this country
  • Hold insurance covering their stay in case of unexpected situations during their stay in Colombia

Previously, Colombia’s Foreign Ministry said that the country is in the process of approving the country’s first Digital Nomad Visa.

In May last year, it was discussed that the country could soon introduce its new Digital Nomad Visa. According to a previous report in the Bogota Post, the two-year visa was not publicly announced yet, but it would be introduced soon.

Back in 2020, Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs passed a law in order to create work permits for digital nomads, including people dedicated to remote teleworking.

In order for governmental officials to execute such a law, the Foreign Ministry must also issue a resolution that holds the specifics of any future visa.

In December last year, the Foreign Ministry announced a draft of the visa resolution project, which also includes a visa for digital nomads.

The Digital Nomad Visa permits internationals to live in Columbia while working remotely, in a legal way, for companies or clients located outside the country.

Recently, the government of Montenegro also unfolded its plans to launch its Digital Nomad Visa.

Such an announcement has been made by the Digital Nomad Association Croatia President, Jan de Jong.

At present, the following countries in Europe are very popular for such programs: Estonia, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Croatia, and Germany.

As for the countries outside the EU, the Digital Nomad Visa Programs of the following territories are considered among the most famous ones, Georgia, Dubai,  Bermuda, Costa Rica, Mexico, Thailand, and Australia.
