Albania has become a favorite international destination for Spanish tourists this summer as its route has been more popular recently.
According to a recent report published by the travel intelligence platform Mabrian, in addition to Albania, other countries that most Spaniards plan to visit in summer are as follows:
- Spain
- Portugal
- Italy
- France
- United Kingdom
- Germany
- Greece
- Morocco
- United States
Most Spaniards plan their summer vacations at short notice to domestic or short-haul destinations, either to enjoy local culture and beaches if they stay in Spain or to explore heritage, cultural experiences, and gastronomy when they choose international destinations.
Leading the list of European trips, Albania offers travelers a perfect blend of natural beauty and rich cultural and gastronomic heritage, VisaGuide.World reports.
Spanish citizens are not required to present a tourist visa when traveling to Albania. At the same time, Spanish passport holders can stay for a short period (90 days).
3.3 Million Foreign Visitors Were Recorded in Albania in January-March 2024
According to the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) data, some 3.3 million foreign tourists visited Albania from January to May 2024, a 38.2 percent increase from the previous year.
In addition to tourists from the Balkan countries that Albania registered the most, there was also a surge in the number of visitors from Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Spain.
Foreign destinations with short-haul flights, such as Portugal, Italy, Morocco, or Greece, remain favorites for Spanish visitors—they offer a proposal combined with sun, beach, and cultural values.
Mabrian also revealed that even Albania does not increase in preferences. The US is also included in the top ten choices as the only long-haul destination for these travelers.
Moreover, cultural heritage and gastronomy are the main reasons that almost half of Spaniards (37 percent) and 12 percent (respectively) choose an international summer destination.
In addition to these two reasons, the sun and the beach are important to 13 percent of Spaniards who travel to the country.

Based on the perception of Spanish travelers, Mabrian found that Spain and the five favorite international destinations of Spaniards during the summer rank between 73 and 82 points (out of a possible 100), with Portugal, Spain, and the UK being the safest.
As for the destinations that will increase the most direct flights, connecting Spain during the summer season of this year are the following ones:
- US (+5 percent)
- China (+7 percent)
- India (+8 percent)
- Japan (+7 per cent)
- UK (+5 percent)
- Italy (+11 percent)
- Germany (+6 percent)
- Türkiye (+4 percent)
- Brazil (+3 percent)
