China Announces Visa-Free Travel for Nationals of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru & Uruguay From June 1

Nationals from five Latin American and Caribbean countries will be eligible to travel to China visa-free from June 1, 2025.

Announcing that the new decision comes in a bid to facilitate people-to-people exchanges, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that the visa-free policy has been expanded to include Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Uruguay, VisaGuide.World reports.

In a press conference on Thursday, Jian said that ordinary passport holders from the countries mentioned above can benefit from the visa exemptions when planning to travel to China for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, or exchanges and transit within a period that does not surpass 30 days.

The spokesperson said that China remains committed to high-level opening-up and plans to impose more measures in order to make the cross-border travel process easier.

Authorities in China also announced plans to expand the policy to cover more regional countries.

Extension of Visa-Free Travel to Several Other Countries

Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced that the visa-free policy would be extended to nine more countries, from November 30, 2024, until the end of this year. The decision was also to tighten connections with these countries.

Back then, authorities in China said that the visa-free policy would be extended to the following countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Estonia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Malta, Latvia, and Japan.

The inclusion of Japan in this list was welcomed among Japanese authorities.

In this regard, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayash said that his country was one of the three territories with visa-free entry before the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing that the government has continuously requested an early resumption.

On November 8, 2024, China’s visa-free agreement list was expanded to include other new countries, among them the following ones: South Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Slovakia, Andorra, Monaco, and Liechtenstein. Nationals of these countries are eligible for visa-free entry to China until December 31, 2025.

In a bid to facilitate the travel process, authorities in China decided to include more countries in their visa-free policy, thus helping the further economic growth through the tourism industry.
