Check when is the right time to apply

The earliest you can apply for a Turkey Transit visa is two months before the date of your planned trip to Turkey. Whereas, the latest you can apply is one month before your trip. Make sure you apply as soon as possible in order to avoid any possible delay in the processing of your visa.

Documents to apply for a Turkey Transit Visa

To apply for a Turkish Visa, you need to submit a few documents on the day of your interview. Make sure these documents comply with the criteria and specifications set by the Turkish embassy.

The required documents for a Turkish transit visa application are:

  • A completed Turkish transit visa application form, travel insurance, proof of occupational status, etc.
  • Passport or another travel document. It should be valid for at least another six months on the date you reach Turkey
  • Two identical photos that comply with the Turkish visa photo requirements.
  • Proof of income or savings. You should submit proof that you have enough money for your stay/transit in Turkey, and in your destination country. You should have about €50 for every day you plan to spend for Turkey.
  • Proof of purchased travel medical insurance.
  • Onward Ticket. Present proof of the ticket of the airplane that will take you to your destination country.
  • Visa for your final destination. Present a visa or other document that authorizes you to enter in your destination country, if applicable.
  • Proof of accommodation in Turkey. This could be a hotel booking or a letter of invitation from the host in Turkey.
  • Police Clearance Certificate. This document should show that you have not been involved in any criminal activities in recent years.

Turkish Transit Visa interview

The interview is mandatory for a sticker visa for transit through Turkey. You should attend the interview on the right day, at the specified time.

The interview is a meeting with a consular officer, who will ask you a few questions regarding your trip. You should have all your documents with you, as listed in this article.

How Long Does it Take to Obtain a Transit Visa for Turkey?

The Turkey embassy in your country of residence will process your visa application for about 15 working days. In some countries, this period may be as short as three working days.

Applying for a Turkish e-Visa for Transit

If you qualify for a Turkish eVisa, then you do not need to go through all the process of getting a sticker visa. Instead, within minutes, you can apply for an eVisa that enables you to enter Turkey for transit purposes.

  1. To get an e-Visa you should first complete the online application form at the Turkish eVisa Website. Within minutes, you will receive an email asking you to confirm that you have started an application for an eVisa. This email may be stored in your inbox or your spam folder.
  2. Through the email, you will confirm the application, which will take you to the same website to pay the eVisa fee.
  3. You will then receive another email with a button that will take you again to the same website, where you will have to download your eVisa.
  4. Print the document so you can present it at the Turkish port of entry.

Do I Need a Different Visa to Transit Through the Airports of Istanbul?

You may need a Turkish Transit Visa to transit through the Istanbul Ataturk Airport on the European side of Turkey or the Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side.

So, you will need an Istanbul Transit Visa to travel through an Istanbul airport to reach your destination country, only if you would also need a Turkish visa for tourism or commercial purposes.
