One in every fifth petition for the US H-1B visas were denied in 2019, by the United States Government, while the denial rate is higher for Indians, a study from official figures reveals.

Indian IT companies such as Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys had a higher denial rate compared to American companies, VisaGuide.World reports.

While the total denial rate for 2019, decreased to 21 percent, compared to 2018 when the denial rate was 24 percent, the National Foundation for American Policy says that the denial rate for Indian companies has increased.

In 2019, the denial rate for Tata Consultancy Services was 31 percent and for Infosys 35 percent while it was 47 percent for Wipro and 37 percent for Tech Mahindra. The denial rate for American companies like Amazon and Google was four percent for each.

During the same period, Microsoft had a denial rate of six percent, while for Facebook and Walmart, the rate was just three percent for each.

H-1B visa enables US employers to find overseas workers if they can’t find them in America, requiring higher education decree and specialized in fields like IT, architects, accountants, professors, doctors, etc.

American technology firms ‘depend’ on tens of thousands of foreign workers, especially from countries like India and China.

“In 2020, the Trump administration is expected to introduce a new H-1B regulation that will make it more difficult for employers to hire high-skilled foreign nationals in the United States,” the National Foundation for American Policy said this week.

In September 2018, India and the United States discussed the H-1B visa issue in the first 2=2+2 Dialogue between two countries, held in Delhi when the topic was “forcefully” brought up by the US state secretary Mike Pompeo.

In December 2019, during the 2+2 dialogue held in Washington the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the importance of intra-people relations pointing out that they were the defining elements of the friendship between both the countries.
