European airlines, Lufthansa Group, and British Airways as well as the US’ Delta airlines have recently joined the list of countries to cancel flights to Tel Aviv, due to the recent developments in the Middle East.
Tensions in the Middle East have been raised following the assassination of a senior commander of the Lebanese Hezbollah group in Beirut, leading several airlines in worldwide countries to temporarily suspend flights to Tel Aviv, VisaGuide.World reports.
Through a statement, the Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has announced that following the current developments in the Middle East, Lufthansa Group is once again applying new changes to its services in the Middle East.
All passenger and cargo flights to Tel Aviv will be temporarily suspended from Friday, August 2, up to and including August 8. For technical reasons, rebooking is only possible for canceled flights up to and including 06 August. Passengers with canceled flights after this date are requested to contact a Service Centre.
A large number of flights have been canceled as a result of the Lufthansa Group’s announcement to suspend flights to Tel Aviv until August 9.
Lufthansa Group consists of Swiss Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussel Airlines, and Eurowings.
In addition, Air Baltic also suspended flights to Israel, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, while confirming that after Friday, all flights remain unchanged.
Air France, Turkish Airlines & Others Have Also Halted Flights to Israel
The current situation in the Middle East led several airlines, including Air France, Turkish Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Ethiopian Air, and Aegean Airlines to also halt flights to Israel amid security concerns.
Through a statement, Delta also announced that it took similar measures when it comes to offering its services to Tel Aviv.
Delta flights between New York-JFK and Tel Aviv will be paused through Friday, Aug. 2, due to ongoing conflict in the region. Sales of flights for DL234 on Jul. 31 and Aug. 1, and DL235 on Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. are suspended.
Thousand Stranded in Tel Aviv Airport
About 70,000 passengers are currently at Tel Aviv airport, according to local media reports. Some of them are attempting to catch the last flight in order to leave Israel.
The ongoing announcements related to flight cancellations have sparked concerns among them that they could be stranded in Israel.
On Thursday, the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) through a statement said that amid the current security situation, flights to and from Israel are still safe.
