The Nigeria electronic visa system has been designed in a way that will take only a few minutes to complete. It is entirely online, and you can submit your application from anywhere.

Why Is the Nigeria e-Visa Issued?

The Nigeria electronic visa is issued for tourism and business purposes. If you plan to visit Nigeria for a short period of time, you can apply for an e-visa to Nigeria. You will receive an electronic travel authorization letter (eTAL), which is a pre-approval document. You must have it with you when you travel.

What Are The Nigeria e-Visa Types?

Here is a list of the Nigeria e-Visa types you can apply for:
  • Transit-Without-Visa. This type of visa allows you to stay in Nigeria for a maximum of 48 hours. No entry into the country of Nigeria is allowed.
  • Business. This is a single-entry visa. The maximum time you can stay in the country with this visa is 90 days.
  • Business (frequently traveled executives visa). This is a single and multiple entry visa. It allows you to stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days for each entry. One of the requirements for this visa is at least a $250,000 USD investment in Nigeria. You can also obtain it at the Nigerian Consular Missions or at the Visa On Arrival Program (VoA), although it only applies to a limited number of nationalities.
  • Tourism Visa. This is a single-entry visa. You can stay for a maximum of 90 days in the country on this visa.
  • Journalist Visa. This is a single-entry visa. The maximum period of time you can stay on this visa is 90 days.
  • Medical Tourism Visa. This is a single-entry visa. The maximum amount of time you can stay on this visa is 90 days.
  • Religious Tourism Visa. This is a single-entry visa, which allows you to stay in the country for 90 days.
  • Sport Visa. This is a single-entry visa, which is available for a 90 days short visit.
  • Entertainer Visa. This is a single-entry visa.
  • Study Tour Visa. This visa allows you to stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days. It is a single-entry visa.
  • Academic Exchange Program (AEP) Visa. This is a single-entry visa. You can stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days on this visa.
  • International Culture Exchange Visa. This visa is a single-entry visa. It allows you to stay in the country for 90 days.
  • Humanitarian Service Visa. This visa is single-entry, which allows a stay of a maximum of 90 days.
  • Emergency/Relief Work Visa. This visa is single-entry and allows you to stay in the country for 90 days. It applies to a limited number of nationalities only.
  • Staff of International NGO Visa. It is single-entry and allows you to stay in the country for 90 days.
  • Staff of NGO Visa. This visa is single-entry. The maximum number of days you can stay in the country is 90 days.
  • Returning Nigerian by Birth Visa. This visa is a single and multiple entry reciprocity visa. You can stay for a maximum of 90 days on each entry.
Before you apply, make sure that you apply for the correct visa. Your purpose of travel must match the visa you apply for.

How to Apply for a Nigeria e-Visa?

To apply for a Nigeria electronic visa, follow the steps below:
  1. Access the online application and sign up at the Nigeria Immigration Service. This is the new website, available from May 7, 2023.
  2. Complete the application form. Make sure all information, e.g. your name, last name, nationality, etc, appear the same on your application as they do in your passport.
  3. Pay the application fee. You must pay the fee as soon as you are done with filling in your application. This is a necessary step in order for your application to be processed and move further. You must make the visa fee payment using the Application ID and Reference number, which you will receive via email once your application has been successfully submitted.
After you have completed all three steps, wait for the approval of your application. It usually takes 16 to 48 hours. If your application is approved, you will receive the eTAL by email. Print the eTAL and travel to Nigeria.
Note: You may also be able to access the visa application through the website of the Nigerian Consular Missions or Visa Application Centers.

How Will I Receive My Nigeria e-Visa?

You will receive the electronic authorization letter in your email. When applying online for a visa to Nigeria, you will receive an eTAL (electronic authorization letter). This letter authorizes you to travel to Nigeria.
