The UK Global Mobility is a temporary employement route in the UK that contains five types of visas:

  • Expansion Worker Visa.
  • Graduate Trainee Visa.
  • Secondment Worker Visa.
  • Senior or Specialist Worker Visa.
  • Service Supplier Visa.

Expansion Worker Visa

For senior managers or specialist employeees to establish a branch of a business that will start to do business for the first time in the UK.

Graduate Trainee Visa

For participants of a graduate training program for a managerial or specialist role to transfer to the UK branch of their company.

Secondment Worker Visa

For overseas employers to transfer employees to do an eligible job in the UK for temporary business purposes.

Senior or Specialist Worker Visa

For senior managers or specialists who are taking a temporary transfer to a UK subsidiary or branch of their employer that is based overseas.

This visa has replaced the previous Intra-company (ICT) visa.

Service Supplier Visa

For overseas workers to work temporarily in a UK company by providing a contract as an employee of an overseas company or a self-employed professional based overseas.

Global Mobility Visa Requirements

To qualify for the Global Mobility Visas, you need to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Your job must be listed in the eligible occupations for the Global Business Mobility visas.
  • You must have a certificate of sponsorship (CoS) given by your UK employer. The CoS has details about the job you will be doing in the UK. After you get the certificate of sponsorship, you have three months to apply for the service supplier visa.
  • Be over the age of 18.
  • Have at least £1,270 in your bank account as proof you can support yourself in the UK.
  • Additional requirements for the Expansion Worker visa:
    • Have worked for your employer outside the UK for at least one year. However, if you earn more than £73,900 or you are Japanese working for a Japanese business that is expanding into the UK, the requirement does not apply to you.
    • Receive a minimum salary of £42,400 (€48,339) annually or the going rate for your job, whichever is higher.
  • Additional requirements for the Service Supplier visa:
    • Be an employee of an overseas business or a self-employed individual based overseas.
    • Be under a contract with a UK business that is covered by an international agreement.
    • Have worked for your employer for at least one year, or you have one year of professional experience as self-employed.
  • Additional requirements for the Graduate Trainee visa:
    • Be an employee of an organization that has been approved as a sponsor.
    • Have worked for your employer for at least three months before your application.
    • You must receive an income of at least £23,100 annually. You must be paid £23,100 annually or 70% of the going rate for your job, whichever is higher. Each occupation code has its annual going rate. You can check the going rate for your job in the going rates table.
  • Additional requirements for the Secondment Worker visa:
    • Be an employee of an overseas organization that has a contract with your UK sponsor.
    • Your overseas employer must have an eligible contract worth £50 million with your UK sponsor. If your employer has a contract of less than £50 million worth, you can apply for another work visa in the UK.
  • Additional requirements for the Senior or Specialist Worker visa:
    • Be an employee of an organization that’s been approved by the Home Office as a sponsor.
    • Work for a business or organization that is connected to your UK sponsor.
    • Have worked outside the UK for the linked business or organization for at least one year unless you earn more than £73,900.
    • Your UK sponsor has paid any required Immigration Skills Charge.

Supporting Documents for Global Mobility Visas

To support your application for the Global Mobility visas, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • Your certificate of sponsorship (CoS) reference number.
  • Valid passport. You will need a blank page if you need to provide your biometrics.
  • Work offer or contract or another type of relevant document, stating the occupation code, salary and the title of your job.
  • A document which states your employer’s name and sponsor license number.
  • Bank statements as proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself in the UK. You don’t need to prove this if:
    • You have been in the UK for one year or more.
    • Your sponsor will be covering you financially with up to £1,270 during your first month. If your sponsor will support you financially, it must say so in your certificate of sponsorship.
  • Your tuberculosis test results if you are from a listed country.
  • Proof of your relationship with your dependents if you are bringing any.
  • A valid ATAS certificate if your sponsor tells you that you need one.
  • Additional documents for the Expansion Worker Visa: 
    • Evidence of previous work with your employer outside the UK, such as:
      • Printed payslips.
      • Bank or building society statements.
      • A building society passbook.
      • Online payslips accompanied by a letter from your employer signed by a senior staff number.
  • Additional documents for the Graduate Trainee Visa:
    • Proof that you have worked for your employer outside the UK three months before you applied:
    • Printed payslips
    • Bank or building society statements
    • A building society passbook
    • Online payslips accompanied by a letter from your sponsor signed by a senior staff number.
    • Details of your training program.
  • Additional documents for the Secondment Worker Visa:
    • Evidence you have worked for your employer outside the UK. You may have to prove that you have worked for your employer outside the UK for 12 months.You can submit the following:
      • Printed payslips.
      • Online payslips accompanied by a letter from your sponsor signed by a senior staff member.
      • Bank or building society statements
      • A building society passbook.
  • Additional documents for the Senior or Specialist Worker Visa:
      • Proof that you have worked for your employer outside the UK.
  • Additional documents for the SService Supplier Visa:
    • Evidence of working with your employer outside the UK for 12 months.
    • Proof of your experience and qualifications.

You must submit a certified translation if your documents are not in Welsh or English.

How to Apply for the Global Mobility Visas?

To apply for the Global Mobility visas, you must follow the steps below:

  1. Submit an online application on the UK visas and immigration website. The personal data you give must be in English.
  2. Upload the documents. You must upload the documents you have prepared during your online application. You can submit the documents as photos or scanned; either way, they must be JPG, PNG, PDF, or JPEG.
  3. Pay the required fees. You must pay the application fee and the healthcare surcharge online.
  4. Book an appointment at the visa application center. You can find your nearest VAC by checking the Find a visa application centre on GOV.UK. As you apply online, you must schedule an appointment to provide your biometric information to get a biometric residence permit.

You must obtain a biometric residence permit within ten days of your arrival in the UK.
