Who Can Apply For an Albania Retirement Visa?

Foreign individuals who are retired in their home country and can prove that they are beneficiaries of a monthly pension of 120.000 ALL are eligible to apply for an Albania Retirement Visa.

Documents Required for an Albania Retirement Visa

You are required to submit the following documents to complete your application for an Albania Retirement Visa:

  • Albania Retirement Visa Application Form completed and signed at the end.
  • Photocopy of your valid travel document.
  • Photographs. Two photographs taken within the last six months in a format of 47mm x 36mm.
  • Proof of accommodation. Provide evidence that you have suitable accommodation in Albania, such as a certificate or lease contract in accordance with the standards of housing in Albania.
  • Means of subsistence. Proof that you receive an annual income of 1200000 ALL (approx. $10500) from your country of origin.
  • Evidence from a second-tier bank in Albania for the transfer of the pension.
  • Health insurance certificate valid in Albania.
  • Evidence of Judicial Records Certificate legalized by your country of origin.
  • A statement on the motive of your stay in Albania.

Once you complete the document checklist, you will be informed of the time and date of the submission to the local Migration Office to submit the original documents.

NOTE: The Migration employee will notify you of the inaccuracies and will instruct you on how to proceed if there are any missing documents.

How to Apply for a Retirement Visa in Albania?

Starting from May 2022, the application process for an Albania Retirement Visa is carried out online on the electronic service.
Once you meet the legal requirements and have all the necessary documents translated and legalized, you must begin your application within 30 days of entering the territory of the Republic of Albania. Thus, you must check if you need an Albania Visa to enter the country beforehand.

You can begin your online application by following three simple steps:

  1. Visit the electronic service E-Visa
  2. Choose the “Visa for Pensioners” type under the Long Stay D visa section.
  3. Create an account and log in.
  4. Complete the electronic application form with the required information.
  5. Upload the necessary documents in PDF format.

Once you press send, the state Police is notified electronically of the arrival of the new file and will begin to verify the accuracy of the submitted documents.

If your application meets the requirements, you will receive a message to inform you that your application has been accepted, what fee you need to pay, and other procedures you must follow.

The prices for an Albanian visa depend on the type of visa you apply for and your nationality. The general fee for an Albanian Retirement Visa is around 11400 ALL ( approx. $100), but it may vary depending on your country of origin.

How Long Does It Take to Get an Albanian Retirement Visa?

Usually, the processing time for an Albanian Retirement Visa takes around 25 days from the day your application is accepted. In exceptional cases, processing time may take longer (up to 30 days).

Duration of an Albania Retirement Visa

An Albania Retirement visa is issued for a period of 12 months (1 year) the first time. After the first renewal, the visa will have a validity of two years, and five years after the third renewal.

After the five-year validity period, you will get ten years and will be eligible to apply for Albanian citizenship.

Can I Become a Permanent Resident in Albania with a Retirement Visa?

To become a permanent resident of Albania, you are required to live for five consecutive years in the territory of the country. After five years of uninterrupted residence, you can apply for permanent residency in the Republic of Albania.
