What Is the NZeTA Fee?

An NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) allows citizens of certain countries to travel to New Zealand without a visa. The NZeTA is a Multiple Entry visa that is valid for two years. To apply for an NZeTA, you must pay the following fees:

How to Pay the Visa Application Fee for New Zealand?

The payment of the NZ visa application depends on the form of the application:

  • Online application. You must provide your bank card details during the online application. After your payment has been successfully processed, you will receive a confirmation email. It’s important to keep a copy of this confirmation email or receipt as proof of payment for your visa application.
  • Paper application. You must provide your bank card details in the payment section of the paper application. Immigration New Zealand will charge the application fee to your card. It’s important to ensure that you have sufficient funds on the day when they receive your application. Otherwise, it may be sent back to you.

Do I Need to Pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL)?

A fee called the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) is required to be paid by numerous tourists, individuals on working holidays, and certain students and workers who are visiting or entering New Zealand. The IVL fee is NZD $35.

The requirement to pay the IVL in New Zealand varies depending on several factors, including the passport you are traveling on, the purpose of your visit, and the type of visa you apply for. You do not need to pay the IVL if you are:

  • Traveling on certain passports. If you are traveling on an Australian or New Zealand passport or a passport issued by select Pacific Island nations.
  • Transit passengers at Auckland International Airport. If you are a transit passenger arriving at and departing from Auckland International Airport without entering New Zealand.
  • Holders of specific visas. The IVL is not applicable if you possess a:
    •  New Zealand resident visa
    • an Australian Resident Visa
    •  a Business Visitor Visa, or
    •   an APEC business travel card

Will I Get a Refund if My NZ Visa Application Is Rejected?

Once your visa application is completed, including cases where it is declined, refunds are not possible. This is because the fees you pay cover the expenses associated with assessing your application.

However, if your visa application has not yet been processed, there is a possibility of receiving a refund in special circumstances. It’s important to note that refunds are not available if you simply change your mind about your application. Refunds for fees may be applicable in the following scenarios:

  • Overpayment. If you accidentally paid a fee that was not required for your particular situation.
  • Incorrect payment. If you mistakenly paid an incorrect fee that does not align with the specific requirements of your application.
  • Ineligible application. If you paid the fee, but your application failed to meet the necessary lodgement criteria specified by the authorities.

Can I Get a Refund of My Residence Application or Expression of Interest Fee?

If your visa application has not been processed or you choose to withdraw your Expression of Interest (EOI), you may be eligible for a refund.

However, it’s important to note that refunds are granted in specific and exceptional situations. It’s not possible to obtain a refund simply due to a change of mind regarding your visa application or if your EOI has lapsed without being selected. If you chose to withdraw your Expression of Interest (EOI) before any further processing or selection took place, a refund may be possible.
