The H1-B selection process, for the fiscal year 2021 has been completed, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced.
Applicants who applied for the first time through the electronic registration system for the temporary visa have been notified, and now the selected companies must prepare and submit their applications in order to receive H-1B petitions, VisaGuide.World reports.
According to the USCIS, the new registration process was well-received by users, as up to 200,000 registrations were submitted during the initial period.
“Nearly 275,000 unique registrations were submitted during the initial registration period. Roughly 46% of all registrations were for prospective beneficiaries with US advanced degrees. There were more than 40,000 registration accounts created, and nearly 81% of submitted registrations were for potential beneficiaries from India (67.7%) and China (13.2%),” the statement of USCIS reads.
The USCIS Deputy Director for Policy, Joseph Eldow said that the new registration system would save an amount of paper and data exchanged between USCIS and petitioners.
The period of filing the H-1B cap-subject petition will last 90 days and the subject cap must be properly filed, as the online filing is not available for H-1B petitions, so they must do so by paper.
Petitioners must also print a copy of the applicable registration selection notice with the FY 2021 H-1B cap-subject petition.
Through the previous application way, employers sent USCIS applications and supporting materials to apply for the H-1B petition. But the new systems seek these materials only after the employer registers electronically for a beneficiary, and after the agency has already chosen the beneficiary in the lottery.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), last year finalized a regulation for the new registration system.
The USCIS last year, also announced that the testing phase of the electronic registration process has been successfully completed and was ready to be implemented on this year’s H-1B lottery.
All the applicants had to pay a registration H-1B visa fee of $10 for the electronic process.
