A report published recently in the issuance of Canada visas, shows that the country has refused more than a quarter of all the temporary resident visa applications it received in 2017 alone. Moreover, it rejected another 30% of the applications for the same type of visa, that it received during the three first months of 2018.

The figures in the report, which is based on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data, show that alongside with the increasing of applications of Temporary Resident Visas, the rate of their rejection has also increased significantly since 2012. From that period on, the number of applications received and processed increased from 1.3 million to 2.3 million, while the number of refusals soared to more than 600 thousand in 2017.

The Temporary Resident Visas include visas for purposes of tourism, business, school, conferences and family visits. While 26 percent of the overall number of visas rejected in 2017 were non-student visas, the other 33 percent was for student visas.

Troubled countries in Africa and Middle East had the highest rates of refusals, with 75% of the refused applications coming from Somalia, Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan.

Recently, the country announced that it would start to expand its biometrics scheme in order to strengthen the immigration program through effective screening, and that it would also apply changes in the immigration policies, in order to facilitate application processing for foreigners that wish to enter the country, while attempting not to lose the confidence of public.

Despite of the number of the refusal rate for student visas, Canada has also introduced a new quicker and simpler visa processing mechanisms, for students coming from India, China, Vietnam and Philippines. The scheme makes it possible for the students coming from these countries to get a visa within 45 days, while other students have to wait for 15 days more. The program called Student Direct Stream (SDS), is available for students wishing to apply to all higher educational institutions, as colleges and universities.
